General Information (Class Policy)

A. Attendance:
|
All students are expected to attend each scheduled class. Frequent absences will adversely affect your grade. If regular attendance is a problem for you, you should reassess your goals and priorities. If unexpected emergencies prevent one from attending a class, the student is required to notify the instructor on the day of the missed class. | ||||||
| Be on time. If you are late, let you instructor know at the end of the class. Otherwise, you might be marked absent. | |||||||
| If you are late or absent from a class, you are to find out from your fellow students, not the instructor, the materials that were covered during your absence | |||||||
| More than 4 absences without valid reasons will affect your grade. A score of 10 points for each absence beyond 4 will be subtracted from the final score. | |||||||

B. Grading:
|
There will be total of 3 or 4 in class tests. Each test will be announced approximately one week in advance. Your lowest score from one of the first 3 tests will be dropped. The last test score or final exam score cannot be dropped | ||||||
| Absences are not valid excuse for not being prepared. An automatic zero will be assigned as your test score for each test you missed. There will be no make up test. | |||||||
| At instructor's discretion, 5 to 15 minutes surprise quizzes may be given at any time during the semester without prior notification. Quizzes will be based on the homework and the materials discussed in the previous class. There will be no make-up quiz. | |||||||
| If you missed the final examination, a grade of F, NA or I (until it is made up) as deemed appropriate by the instructor, will be recorded as your final grade. | |||||||
| The incomplete grade, I, is not a student's choice. A grade of "I" will be awarded only when the instructor is convinced that the reason for missing final examination was beyond the control of the student. Poor preparation, outside obligation, and too many absences from the class will not qualify you get an "I" grade. Please note that the grade I expires by a certain date in following semester. The student is responsible for getting in touch with the instructor to complete the necessary work by the expiration date. | |||||||

There will be a comprehensive departmental tests for Elements of Statistics I and Intermediate Algebra | ||||||
| Total points on your final examination, test, and quizzes will be averaged to form on your final grade. A letter grade will be assigned as follows: | |||||||
| A: 90-100 | B: 80-89 | C: 70-79 | D: 60-69 | F: under 60 | |||
| Academic dishonesty on the part of any student will result in the expulsion from the course for the rest of the semester, and "F" will be given as a final grade. Such conduct will be reported to the dean of the students for appropriate disciplinary action. | |||||||
| C. Withdrawal Policy: | You can officially withdraw from the course only by properly filling a duly signed official withdrawal form (can be obtained from registrar's office). The student will receive a "W" if he/she withdraws before the final withdrawal date. | ||||||

D. Questions in and out of the classroom:
|
The students are encouraged to ask questions during the class. That will help the instructor to gauge student's learning. If there are still questions that were not clarified in the class, the student can ask for clarification after the class. If the additional time is needed, the student can receive additional help during office hours. If student cannot attend the office hours they are encouraged to talk to the instructor, and the instructor will try to arrange for mutually convenient time and place for further discussion. | ||||||

E. Additional Help:
|
Additional help can be obtained during office hours. If your schedule does not allow to get additional help during office hours, you can make appointments for special meetings. Walk-in-Math-Help allows the students get additional help from available instructor without appointments. Please check with the department's secretary Linda Mazziotta (ext 4461) for schedule.College provides tutoring help for most of the math courses. Tutoring Lab is located in Wolverton, 3rd Floor. Please check with Tutoring Lab for additional tutoring schedule for your courses. | ||||||
